Apartment Design That Supports Senior Comfort in Albany

According to the National Center for Assisted Living (NCAL), over 1 million Americans reside in assisted living. As we get older, we start facing both physical and mental challenges, and as much as we'd like to, we can't remain in our beloved homes.

Searching for accessible housing in New Albany, IN, can be difficult, though, as it must be safe yet comfortable. Plus, it should have plenty of amenities to keep you busy.

Well, Bennett Place Assisted Living is here to satisfy all your needs. Our thoughtful apartment design is sure to facilitate aging in place, and you'll love it here.

Read on to see how we've planned out our New Albany assisted living to accommodate older adults.

Two Simple Floor Plans

There are no overwhelming choices here regarding floor plans and senior living options. There are two choices: Oak or Cedar.

The Oak floor plan is a suite with one bathroom and spans 300 square feet. The Cedar floor plan is a slightly bigger one bedroom apartment that also has one bathroom. It totals 390 square feet.

Both have senior-friendly layouts, as the bathroom and kitchenette are put to one side. This leaves over half of the living space free and open.

As a result, you can decorate however you like to make it really feel like home. It'll also be easy to get around, as the apartment design feels roomy and not compact at all.

Pets Are Allowed

The National Council on Aging (NCOA) lists several ways that pets boost our physical health as we age. Not to mention, they can improve our mental health as well. So it's essential that everyone has the chance to own a pet, especially seniors.

We understand how important it is to have an animal companion, which is why our community welcomes pets. They're allowed in both of our floor plans.

As we've mentioned before, the living spaces are specifically designed to give you as much open room as possible. This means that you and your beloved pet can live together comfortably.

Fully-Equipped Kitchenettes

Cooking is a fun activity that keeps you busy and your brain active. From researching recipes, planning meals, and buying groceries, to prepping ingredients and cooking them, cooking can bring great joy to your life. In addition, it's a fantastic excuse to get family and friends to visit.

Our apartments come with fully-equipped kitchenettes that can make food prep and cooking much smoother for you. This allows you to come up with creative dishes and have more control over your nutrition.

Our living spaces also have refrigerators and freezers, so you can have a good mix of both fresh and frozen foods at the ready.

Climate Control

New Albany goes through a wide range of temperatures throughout the year, with highs in the 90s during the summer and lows in the 20s in the winter. With those temps come real health concerns, especially if you have pre-existing conditions and/or a weakened immune system. So climate control isn't extravagance; it's a necessity.

Our apartments have large windows that let in plenty of natural light. Not only will they provide warmth, but they'll also increase safety since you'll see better. In the summer, if it gets too hot, you can utilize the window treatments to block out the sun and keep cool.

Should you need extra help in keeping the space comfortable, then take advantage of the heating and air conditioning system. With climate control, you won't have to worry about sweating or shivering.

Illuminated Apartment Entryways

As part of our safe living for older adults, we have illuminated apartment entryways. Coming home after the sun's gone down won't be an issue anymore, as you'll be able to see clearly with each step.

This means that the possibilities are endless for you to have a packed schedule. Whether you want to go have dinner with friends or walk your dog when it's darker and cooler, you'll be able to do it all.

Smoke Detectors and a Sprinkler System

House fires are a very real danger wherever you live, and you need to have a secure system in place to prevent deadly incidents. After all, it can take just a few minutes for a small fire to break out into a full-apartment disaster.

In each living space, we've installed modern smoke detectors. We ensure that there are fresh batteries in them, so if there's a hint of smoke, they're sure to go off, and you can evacuate safely if needed.

Should there be a fire on the premises, there's a sprinkler system all throughout the community. This reactive implementation will douse any active fires quickly, giving you a chance to get out.
